The reason behind this is that menopausal weight gain is a sign that they are aging and can no longer control the extreme changes that their bodies are going through.<span id="more-119"></span></p>
<p>However, women should be expectant of this weight gain during menopause. During their menopausal period, many women are sulking into a huge state of depression when they start to gain weight. This is not a good idea after all because every woman should understand that all people, including her, will have old bodies that will not entail the similar function that they have had ten years ago. They should accept the fact that weight gain during menopausal is actually unavoidable. When they have understood this, getting them out of the depression stage becomes much easier. Also, they can now think of ways on how to lessen their weight.</p>
<p>Once menopausal starts, gaining weight is really hard to put a stop on. But when you are younger, you can still do a few things to lessen and prevent it. The most important thing to do is to find out the causes of menopausal weight gain. When you have discovered and understood the causes, it will be easier for you to make and think of the possible solutions. Here are some of the general reasons that cause weight gain:</p>
<p>Lack of exercise. This is the top cause of menopausal weight gain. According to studies, the slow movement of women causes the fats to store in particular areas of their bodies. In order to avoid this menopausal weight gain, women who are still young or in the borderline of being young and old will have to level up their physical activities such as performing habitual exercises and workouts that is suitable for them.</p>
<p>Too much food intake. Women gain weight because of eating too much during the menopausal stage. Appetite tends to increase when women grow older and leads to building up of calories which eventually becomes fat later on.</p>
<p>Unable to burn calories. According to studies, calories that are not burnt may contribute a lot to gaining weight during menopausal period. What happens is that the fats replace the calories which are very hard to burn. Then the muscles are also replaced by fat which will lead to a slower metabolism and fat deposits inside the body.</p>
<p>Moreover, families who have histories of menopause weight gain will most likely have women who will suffer from the factors above which will then lead to this condition. To be able to survive experiencing menopausal weight gain, eating healthy foods, having regular physical exercises and visiting your doctor regularly for check-ups are the good things that you can do as you grow older.</p>

<p>Gaining weight during menopause is caused by several factors. Hormonal changes as a woman grows older are one of them where she experiences very low levels of estrogen in the body. In addition,  weight gain, estrogen and testosterone levels are closely inked to one another .</p>
<p>Developing insulin resistance also plays a role in menopausal weight gain. During the menopausal years, the body grows to be weaker in taking in the calories and so it eventually turns into fats. Eating foods that are processed and refined can make your body resist insulin from being created into the blood stream later on. This is usually the cause of gaining weight of women who passed the age of 40.</p>
<p>Stress during menopause is also another factor that contributes to weight gain. Once the stress hormones are produced, they create signals to the storage mode that makes losing weight very difficult. This condition is called the “famine effect” in which the stress hormones make the body think that it will not be getting any food again for a long period of time. <p>In order to maintain their weight during menopausal period, women should always keep their weight in check. One important thing to do everyday is to eat a balanced diet. Refined sugars and processed foods should be avoided and fruits and vegetables are preferred instead. Moreover, crash diets should also be avoided by women who are undergoing menopause and weight gain. It will create an even bigger problem for this diet involves starving the whole body. It can only cause a woman’s metabolism to go slower and thus, more weight is gained. At this stage, women should be losing huge amounts of weight rather than gaining them.</p>
<p>Women who are experiencing weight gain and menopause can cause thinning or drastic weight loss and even a greater condition like osteoporosis later on. The body has to remain active to be able to increase the body’s metabolism and burn the unnecessary fats in the body during or after menopause.</p>

<p>Women undergo menopausal weight gain because of menopause and the challenging body changes it may bring. One of these changes is the hormonal activity inside the body. The estrogen, which is the female sex hormone that is cause for a monthly ovulation of a woman, has levels that are lessened during menopause.</p>
<p>During low estrogen levels at menopause, the body of a female may stop ovulating. When ovaries produce low estrogen, the body looks for other ways to attain the desired estrogen supply. One way to get a supply of estrogen is to acquire it from fat cells. The body then converts almost all the calories into fat in order to reach the amount of needed estrogen. These muscle mass are more effective at burning calories than fat cells because they help enhance the metabolism of the body. When the testosterone hormone level drops during menopause, there will be a gradual loss of muscle, meaning the metabolism of the body reduces speed, making the burning of the calories in the body much slower.</p>
<p>During menopause, women must not forget that it is not their fault that they are getting wider or heavier. It is actually a normal incident that fluctuations in the hormone levels in the body happen. At this period, most of them put on some weight.  This is mainly due to changes in the hormonal activities.</p>
<p>Those who have already attained the menopausal stage will notice a  change in the shape of their body. Most of them will gain weight about  10-15 pounds in a gradual manner. During the premenopausal period, the  weight gain is about 1-2 pounds a year and after that it takes a little  momentum. It is true for the women having surgical menopause.<span id="more-99"></span></p>
<p>The earlier changes occur in the abdominal area as you look flabby in  the mirror. This depends on the hormonal fluctuation.</p>
<p>These hormones also have an effect over the appetite, metabolism and  the storage of fat.</p>
<p>There are four major female hormones – androgen, estrogen,  progesterone and testosterone. Androgen is responsible for adding weight  to your abdomen. At the menopause, your body produces more androgen  which in turn increases the body fat in the hips, rear or in the thighs.</p>
<p>Estrogen takes care of the monthly ovulation. At the menopausal age,  our body produces less amount of estrogen. This again increases the fat  level as the body become unable to burn calories optimally. The muscles  also gain weight due to less expenditure of calories and that adds to  the menace of putting some extra weight.</p>
<p>Progesterone level also gets down during the menopause. This in turn  is reflected into water retention and bloating in the body. But this  usually wanes off after few months.</p>
<p>Testosterone is responsible for converting the lean muscle mass from  the calories that we consume from our diet. After menopause, this level  also drops down causing the loss of muscle mass. This leads to slowing  down of metabolism and the amount of fat is not burnt adequately causing  weight gain.</p>
<p>Insulin resistance and stress are also causative factors for gaining  weight. The problem in insulin resistance tries to convert every calorie  into fat. Stress also causes weight gain in the same fashion. This is  because during stress, body tries to store every calorie into fat for  future requirements.</p>
<p>Now, the question is to how one can prevent or reduce her weight gain  during the menopause. Most of the experts say that although difficult,  this is not a problem that you cannot overcome. The most important  measure you can take is to take a balanced diet. You have to curtail or  completely banish using the foods that contain refined sugars. You have  to switch over to fresh vegetables and fruits also. Curtailing the  amount of taking alcohol, caffeine and nicotine is mandatory.</p>
<p>You must exercise regularly to remain active during this period. You  can join the aerobics class; you can do jogging, cycling, walking and  running. This will not only increase the muscle mass but they will  prevent the loosening of bone (osteoporosis) during this menopausal  period.</p>
