Thyroid Weight Gain
When the thyroid gland is not functioning well, thyroid weight gain usually happens. The thyroid hormone that is produced in the thyroid gland serves as the counterpart of the body to a vehicle’s cruise control in order to stay in a constant speed. Similar to a car, the thyroid gland maintains the work of the body at a very constant speed.
Thyroid hormones are the ones to make the different body functions to stay in a normal active state. Usually, the production of the thyroid hormone is lessened while the body’s level of activity lessens as well. The cells’ movement n the body is slower and so, they need little energy. Once the energy that is not consumed is stored in the body for future use, the body can turn this excess energy into fat and so the body weight increases.
When the thyroid gland makes less thyroid hormone, less heat is produced due to the cells requiring less energy and less activity. Because of less heat, the body’s sweat glands cannot seem to make the skin moist for the body also turns colder. The brain is also affected by this thyroid hormone because it makes the body want to sleep most of the time. The heart, on the other hand, also beats slower. All in all, the body seems to slow up due to decreasing hormone levels.
What the body needs is to produce enough amounts of hormones that the body needs. Once the level of the thyroid hormones promulgate, the cells inside the body promulgate as well. As a consequence, the body needs more energy to make sure that the fat and protein can store and transfer them to energy. The fat and protein cell stores have to decrease while they are being used so that the body weight can also decrease.
Aside from the effects mentioned above, the thyroid gland should not be in an overactive state for it is not good for the body. When the thyroid gland becomes overactive, it pressures the body to make more heat caused by the need to increase activity in the body. What happens is that the body starts to sweat in order to cool it down. The brain also starts to work overtime which only results to annoyance and trouble in sleeping. Also, the heart starts to beat faster and all the body parts speed up in their activities.
Another gland that helps the thyroid gland in setting the levels of activity in the body is the pituitary gland. It can be found at the root of the brain right ın between the temples. It also sets the levels of functioning of the thyroid gland and controls the release of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) which helps it accelerate so that it is capable to make more and more thyroid hormones in the bloodstream. This presence of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone is vital for the body can gain a lot of weight due to the inactive thyroid gland.
